Glossary:
| Spud |
The action of starting to drill an oil or gas well. |
| Cased |
The preparation of a well after drilling for completion activities where a lining jacket is installed and cemented into place to potentially keep any later completion and productions operations separate and discreet from other zones whether or not they are being produced. |
| Abandoned |
Where a determination is made that there will be no further development activity or production activity with this well. |
| Completion |
The steps required to tap into the reserves of an oil or gas well along some interval of the well bore. This includes perforating casing, fracturing operations, and testing the flow of resource after these activities. |
| Zone |
The set of all areas in a well whose gas and/or oil are being brought to the surface in a discreet conveyance. |
| Tied in |
Connected to the network of piping that brings production to some processing facility. |
| Re-entry |
Drilling into a well that had previously been drilled and abandoned. This often requires a somewhat lower cost to bring the well to the point of being ready for completion. It also has the advantage of having been documented when first drilled. This provides valuable data on extent and quality of the zone or zones of interest. |
